On November 24th, Fr. Andry and I, along with Viktor, a volunteer from the local charitable organization Deti Zaporozhya were visiting war refugees who have fled from Donetsk to Zaporozhye in search of safety. Now today I am looking at photos of the refugee children. I see on their faces the signs of suffering from war. I see pain, and even through their smiles I see fear. They have been torn away from their homes, forced to flee with their parents. Thankfully at least they have living parents, for so many children have lost them to this horrible, politically suffocating war. […]

“Beauty will save the world.” Thus wrote the famous Russian novelist Fyodor Dostoevsky. I love this quote, because it reminds us that what really draws people to believe in Jesus Christ and to change their lives is the evidence of the beauty, the radiance, the splendor of the Lord. Certainly, what is most beautiful about Jesus is His Love, which we often glimpse through other people (think of Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta). When we are inspired by an example of great goodness, great kindness, we frequently say, “That is so beautiful!” Our hearts hunger for this kind of beauty, […]

I’ve just begun to unpack my suitcase. I’ve returned home with it crammed full and a bit messy. It needs to be sorted….but here it sits. I left home with it containing all that I thought I needed as I dove into the unknown. Medjugorje. All I knew was it was a village. A beautiful village. A town where Our Lady appeared to children many years ago and gave them messages. We would stay at a “castle.” I knew I would stay with my daughter, Lizzy, 17 who packed her own suitcase–very full. We were both loaded with things we […]

Jesus, you preached and performed miracles, you touched and healed the sick, you revealed Yourself to all who were rejected.

Jesus, you preached and performed miracles, you touched and healed the sick, you revealed Yourself to all who were rejected. Therefore, many people believed in You. However, many also rejected you. Yet you went on to embrace the Cross and every drop of your most precious blood was poured out in love for all the people – for all those who loved you and for all those who rejected you. Your sacrifice opened the doors to eternal salvation, to the Resurrection, so that we could share eternal life with You. Heavenly Father, You called and You continue to call out […]

A holy man once said that a beautiful light will come from Ukraine, such that the world has never seen. Mary, through your heart and constant concern for all of your children, Light will surely come to us. Light that is impossible not to notice and toward which it will be impossible not to draw near. Mary, Your call is getting stronger, and the hearts of Thy Ukrainians and the people of the world are becoming purified because of the Grace of your Son, brought to us through your loving hands. Now we want to live, want to love and […]

“Celebration of Life” Pilgrimage to Medugorje, Bosnian-Herzegovina

“To offer Him our free will, our reason, our whole life in pure faith, so that He may think His thoughts in our minds, do His work in our hands, and love with our hearts” ….Mother Teresa. I will try to find the right words to describe to you the great miracle which took place on March 19, when 45 medical doctors from various regions of Ukraine, (including Kiev, Zaporozhe, Kamenka-Dneprovskaya, Cherkasi, Irpin, Gitomir, and Donezk), began their pilgrimage to a little town called Medjugorje, in Bosnia-Herzegovina. The true question is how was it possible that these doctors, from whom […]
