Kalinovka Orphanage visit.
Fr. Andry and Valentyna visited the Kalinovka Orphanage in the Chernigovskaya region for the first time on May 30, 2011. The meeting with the director went very well. With all his heart he was telling us about the current situation of the orphanage. Recently many good changes have been done there through the missionaries who have visited with the children. But much more needs to be done.
Most of the children in Kalinovka all have very severe disabilities. They are the children who “nobody wants anymore” according to the director. The bedridden children are now better off because of the increased supply of diapers. They are now allowed three diapers per day instead of one. When we called about our visit and asked what we could bring the director wanted us to bring more diapers. The government provides only food, electricity, water, and a small monthly payment for the staff that are working there. But such things as clothing, diapers, medicine, toys and other necessities are only provided through the goodness of the hearts of volunteers. Every month the Kalinovka orphanage must spend 15000 Gr on diapers, which is approximately $2000. This is a very difficult situation and much need must be given.
We have been able to see the bedridden children of different ages. These beautiful children are happy for any attention that they can receive. Just a touch makes them so happy and full of smiles. One little boy, Nikita, just would not let me go and it was very hard for me to leave him. I remember his eyes. They were so vividly beautiful, brown, and full of life. They were looking and saying without a word that I need you to help me. I want to be loved.
June 11 will be our second visit to the orphanage. This time it will be with the missionaries that arrive on June 6 to Ukraine. They will be doing construction work at the Hospice of St Michael the Archangel.
Jesus, I know you are there in the eyes of all your precious children, in their hearts they feel love and want to be loved, just like I want to be loved by You. Give us strength to go where You want to be loved, give us wisdom and providence to know how to help and what we must do.
