Natural Family Planning (NFP) is a method for achieving or avoiding pregnancy which reflects the dignity of the human person within the context of marriage and family life, promotes an openness to life, and recognizes the value of the child. Different variations of the method are all based on observations of the naturally occurring signs and symptoms of a woman’s fertile and infertile phases of her menstrual cycle. Women also have the benefit of monitoring and maintaining their own gynecological health through the method. The system is designed to be used with regular cycles, irregular cycles, breast-feeding cycles and during the peri-menopausal time. NFP is a natural system that cooperates with the woman’s body, rather than acting against it by the use of drugs, devices or surgical procedures to avoid pregnancy
Advanced training in NFP is initially introduced though the Celebration of Life Pilgrimages hosted through Chalice of Mercy, where Ukrainian doctors of obstetrics and gynecology are taught about the delicacy of life and all that surrounds it in light of the gift of fertility, and the sorrow that is all too often associated with infertility. NFP seminars are also hosted in Ukraine to allow for a more formal training and follow-up in the method and to give doctors the opportunity to share their concerns and experiences and draw others in to the gift of NFP.
